Reduce high humidity in retrofit and renovated multi-family property with the wall mounted IW25 Dehumidifier

A multifamily developer/operator from Roanoke, Virginia contacted Innovative Dehumidifier Systems regarding excessive moisture build-up during heating season in a recently constructed mixed use project. After construction, a small percentage of the units began to experience heavy condensation around large aluminum frame windows located in the living area, resulting in resident complaints and maintenance concerns.

Using a fixed dehumidifier to lower indoor humidity below 60% in multi-family housing

The results of this study demonstrate the profound impact of supplemental dehumidification when used in new construction multifamily housing. The conclusion clearly shows how the AC system, without the benefit of the IW-25 dehumidifier, struggles to maintain a consistent temperature as a result of the latent (moisture) load inside the unoccupied apartment while the system working in conjunction with the IW-25 maintains a steady temperature range; thus proving a reduction in moisture as well as the energy load on the AC.

A building consultant performed an inspection and completed a scope of work including a number of envelope-related enhancements as well as the installation of IW-25 in-wall dehumidifiers throughout the garden-style units. Two apartments were selected for installation of trial units to measure effectiveness of the IW-25 as a solution.

Using supplemental dehumidification to remove unwanted moisture and prevent problems associated with hot-humid climates

Innovative Dehumidifier Systems was contacted by a property management company struggling to achieve appropriate humidity levels and control internal moisture generation in a 1-bedroom luxury condo in South Florida. The small apartment was conditioned by a 1.5 ton split air-conditioner which was ineffective at moisture removal due to excessive short-cycling. Unconditioned outside air introduced into the mechanical closet through a 4″ fresh-air duct was exacerbating the issue.
